California black oak is California’s native oak that most closely resembles the deciduous oaks of eastern North America. In the foothills of the Sierra Nevada where the species is abundant, fall color is bright yellow-orange. In Larkspur, because our fall temperatures are more moderate, the color change is muted. Leaves emerging in the spring, however, always show a beautiful rosy pink.
