The blossoms of the tulip tree really do look like green and yellow tulips. Unfortunately, they often bloom high in the tree and blend with the leaves making it hard to get a good look. Also, the flowers don’t appear until the tree is over twelve years old.
This native of eastern USA , as well as Texas and Ontario, Canada, is a very large deciduous tree reaching well over 80 feet in its natural habitat. It is best used as a shade tree in a spacious yard or park setting. Smaller, earlier blooming cultivars are available.
