Coast redwood is, without a doubt, Larkspur’s signature tree. Look around the downtown and you will see many that have been planted in recent years. The tall trees in the canyon neighborhoods and along the creek are second growth remnants of those that were felled for logs after 1850.

In coast redwood’s native California's natural habitat it’s rare to find a single specimen without others nearby. In urban settings, many are planted singly in open sites without access to water in the dry season, conditions that ultimately lead to decline.
