The tree on Meadowood is Fagus sylvatica ‘Tricolor’ Tricolor beech.

European beech is a deciduous tree native to central Europe to just north of Turkey and Iran. In California it is typically grown as a single tree in parks and large yards.  A row of copper beeches (reddish purple foliage) trimmed as a very large hedge can be seen at the FILOLI estate in Woodside.
