Redbuds are deciduous, small statured, often multi-trunk, trees with flowers in shades of pink that bloom in advance of the leaves in spring. Western redbud is native to California, Arizona and Utah.
It’s difficult to identify redbuds as to species with certainty. Another commonly planted one is eastern redbud, Cercis canadensis which has pointed tipped, heart shaped leaves. The leaves on western redbud are rounded or notched at the tip.
