When the elms in front of Escalle’s on Magnolia Ave. succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease, they were replaced with this row of trees..two maple species and a liquidambar. 1,2,7 Acer rubrum (red maple), 3,5,6 Acer saccharinum (silver maple) and 4 Liquidambar styraciflua(American sweet gum). Although red maples are considered fast growing, at this site the silver maples are way ahead in the growth race. Red maple #7 was removed in 2011.


Four other maple species growing in Larkspur are Acer palmatum (Japanese maple), Acer negundo (box elder), Acer macrophyllum (big leaf maple) and Acer platanoides (Norway maple).
