In front of DJ’s restaurant on Magnolia

Carob is an evergreen tree native to the eastern Mediterranean. Female trees produce brown seed pods which are ground up and sold as a chocolate substitute. There are several in Larkspur’s downtown area. They are not turning out to be the best choice for sidewalk plantings and some along Magnolia Ave. have been replaced with water gums. The remaining trees will also be replaced as problems arise. The downtown Magnolia Ave Beautification Plan calls for the eventual replacement of the carobs and Raywood ashes with water gums and crape myrtles.
