Mexican fan palm is the most commonly seen fan palm in northern California. Those in the row in the center sof Baltimore Ave. and Loma Vista are probably Larkspur’s oldest and tallest. Plant manuals usually give 100 ft or more as their maximum height. California fan palms are not as ubiquitous, but you can see some in front of Marin General Hospital. When the palms are young it’s difficult to tell the difference between the two species. The tips of Mexican fan palm leaflets are more intact...less thread-like.
