Lombardy poplar is a deciduous cultivar native to the Mediterranean region of Europe. It maintains its columnar shape as it grows in height to 100 ft.
This species is not a good choice for most urban locations due to it’s size, relatively short life span and other problems. One among them is profuse sucker growth at the base of the tree as seen on this photo.
